reviews... Timbuk2, Bristol, 16th Feb "The Casio brothers sounded like muscial mad scientist disciples of Vibert. They cut up their favourite sounds beyond the rules of rhythm, cutting up breakbeats of all types, hip hop, drum & bass, breakbeat, and their performance was non stop spontaneity, sometimes complementing each other and sometimes not, taking turns to lead a rather haphazard performance but nonetheless maintaining one’s attention throughout. This sort of cutting and pasting can mean that the musicality is lost from time to time but this is afterall where “sound” meets what we traditionally understand as music so it is constantly challenging our assumptions about what music is. There were certainly strong funky aspects to the chosen samples making it danceable aswell. The intention of the brothers is to create ‘movements aka Aphex Twin’. What it lacked in togetherness was forgivable given that they are improvising, a very intensive work, which this writer lauds and wishes more people would try given the capabilites of the technology available to us."
